Dan Bell, the creator of the excellently made Youtube ‘Deadmall Series’, speaks about growing up in consumer culture, ambivalent nostalgia and his creative motivations in this short and engaging TED Talk. I particularly like his use of ‘Vaporwave’ music in his videos, with it’s glitchy fascination with 1980’s/1990’s culture.
Recently I have been really enjoying this series of videos on ‘dead malls’ in the U.S. It’s great that this kind of decaying retail history is so enthuastically documented and available basically for free.
Between Thursday 18th – Sat 20th August 2016 I will temporarily physically exist in the project space at NN Gallery, Northampton, UK. I’ll be showing old and new work and making art while dressed as a masked freak. Come say hi.
